Endometriosis is a condition suffered by women of reproductive age and affects an estimated 89 million women around the world, regardless of background or race. The word endometriosis is derived from the word “endometrium”, which is the lining inside of a woman’s uterus.

With woman suffering from endometriosis, the endometrial tissue that is normally found in the uterus is also present on the outside of the uterus, in the pelvic cavity.

Although the causes of endometriosis remain unknown, several different theories have been put forward as to what the cause(s) may be.

When Canadian gymnastics coach Tony Smith arrived in the Olympic village for the 2008 festivities, the primary concern was of course the medal potential for his students.

Coach Smith has been a long time sufferer of lower back pain and had relegated himself to just accepting the pain after so many various treatments failed to make a difference. The coach was treated at the clinic in the Olympic village which provides free services to the athletes and coaches.

Thinking of nothing but the medals, the coach was totally amazed at the fact that after just one acupuncture treatment, his lower back pain simply vanished.

Four highly qualified Chinese acupuncturists from a local hospital are doing the services at the village. The comments made to the Doctors about acupuncture at the Olympics are that the services are very much needed and that there is a strong referral base that will in fact get more and more athletes to try acupuncture at the Olympics.

Depending on the services required, you would most likely have needles inserted in your face, arms and legs. The response to the acupuncture facility has been overwhelming, and this is the first time any type of acupuncture has been offered in any of the previous Olympic villages.
